Wishing You Happy, Healthy Year-End Holidays

December 18, 2017

It’s early in the morn. I get up and have my first coffee. And then I think, we made it! The year 2017 is nearly complete!  (Oh no, I’m a year older, too!) No worries – I may be older but I am definitely better, wiser, and healthier.

Take a few minutes, even if it’s just over coffee or whatever your choice of beverage is, and think about all the successes you’ve had. Are they small, like you reached out and helped someone in a difficult situation? (This might be a large one depending on the circumstances.)  Or are they large, like you finished a PhD program?!

Whatever they are and whatever size or caliber they may be, celebrate and allow yourself to feel the good feelings you deserve to be experiencing. Of course, we tend to focus on things we consider fails, like not landing a contract or losing a loved one.

While this is an important part of being a growing human being, use the “fails” not to put yourself down, but rather as learning experiences, to help to make you a better human being. Be forgiving of others, but also forgive yourself, so you can move on without residual guilt or otherwise negative feelings. I admit … this is easier said than done. But it can be done, often with practice. Never give up.

This is the season when so many people are celebrating, but many are feeling low. Reach out if you can and bring a little holiday joy to someone who needs it. Even a pat on the back or a holiday cookie can bring joy, as it means you care.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very happy, prosperous, and joyous holiday season – no matter what you may be commemorating – and here’s hoping for an even better.
