7 Superfoods that Should be Within Your Reach at all Times

What is a superfood? It’s a natural food, often plant-based, that is very nutrient-dense. It’s jam-packed with superior quality nutrients that can super-charge your health. Some are known to boost energy, and some can boost your mood. Some can jumpstart weight loss, and some enhance overall well-being. My top seven choices pack a powerful wellness punch!
  1. Blueberries – they have an abundance of vitamins and phytochemicals. They are fiber-rich and anti-oxidant. 
  2. Turmeric – with the active ingredient curcumin, it's anti-oxidant and a known anti-inflammatory. It's trending now because high quality turmeric is truly powerful.
  3. Almonds – they are rich in calcium – did you know that?! Almonds also have vitamin E and are a decent source of protein. Your skin, bones and muscles will all thank you!
  4. Avocados – these contain some of earth’s healthiest fats. The monounsaturated fat in avocados is excellent for heart health.
  5. Salmon – a well-known superfood that deserves its place on everyone's list. Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, salmon is not only a source of quality protein, but also fights inflammation.
  6. Flaxseeds – like salmon, flaxseeds have omega-3 fats and can help manage diabetes and heart disease. Their anti-inflammatory properties are top-notch!
  7. Cinnamon – research is demonstrating that cinnamon can treat urinary tract infections, improve brain function, lower bad cholesterol, and boost glucose metabolism for those grappling with diabetes. 
Most superfoods are nutrient-dense, but calorie-poor. This is good news for people watching their weight! While superfoods are great to have within reach, simply adding them to a diet that's primarily junk food will not work miracles. They are no substitute for an overall healthy diet. I understand – making lifestyle changes is not always easy!
